Installing Suisai

Suisai requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It’s a universal application that runs natively on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

From the Mac App Store

Install Suisai from the Mac App Store as you would any other application. Updates are delivered through the App Store.

From a direct download

Download and open the Suisai disk image (.dmg). Drag Suisai into the Applications folder shown in the window, then eject the disk image.

Open Suisai from your Applications folder.

Important: Move Suisai into Applications before opening it. macOS may run applications launched directly from a downloaded disk image in a temporary, read-only location. Installing Suisai in Applications avoids this and allows the built-in updater to work correctly.

The direct-download version checks for updates through a separate, sandboxed helper and notifies you when a new version is available.

Registering a direct purchase

The direct-download version asks for a license key the first time you open it, and shows the registration screen in the palette window’s place until it has one. The App Store version contains none of this: Apple’s purchase is the license.

Your key arrives two ways, and either one registers the app.

• The license file. Double-click the .suisailicense attachment, drop it on Suisai’s Dock icon, or drop it onto the registration screen.
• The key itself. Paste it whole into the field and choose Register. Keep the hyphens.

Registration happens entirely on your Mac. The key is a signed payload checked against keys inside the application, so nothing is contacted to register it and Suisai never reads your clipboard on its own — you paste the key yourself.

Your license doesn’t expire, and it covers every release within the major version you bought. Settings → General has Remove License… if you need to take it off a Mac; your palettes and settings stay where they are.

Lost the key? Email [email protected] from the address you bought with. Keys are re-issued from your order.

Permissions and folder access

Suisai doesn’t require Screen Recording permission to sample colors. It uses the native macOS color picker, so you can capture colors from your displays without granting access to screen recordings.

The application runs in the macOS sandbox. Your colors, palettes, and photographs are processed locally, without being uploaded. In the direct-download version, network access is restricted to update checks through a separate sandboxed helper.

When Suisai first needs to write to ~/Library/Colors, macOS asks you to grant access to that folder. This typically happens when you save your first new palette or choose Install in Color Picker….

After granting access, Suisai can use that folder for subsequent saves and installations without asking each time, provided the permission remains valid.
